Funding & Economic Impact

Stay in the Skagit Valley

The Skagit Tourism Bureau is a non-profit 501c6 organization dedicated to promoting tourism in Skagit Valley, primarily funded through a Tourism Promotion Area (TPA), a designated geographic region where lodging establishments collaborate to fund marketing and promotional efforts to boost tourism. Skagit County’s TPA was established through an interlocal agreement in June of 2020, implementing an assessment on lodging properties with 40 rooms or more to generate TPA collections starting in January of 2021.

The TPA assessment is governed by state RCWs, collected by the Department of Revenue, and distributed to Skagit County. A TPA Advisory Board was formed, and a contract was established between Skagit County and the Skagit Tourism Bureau, designating the bureau as the official destination marketing organization for the region and the sole manager of TPA funds.

These funds are strategically invested in targeted advertising and marketing campaigns to showcase Skagit Valley’s unique attractions and experiences. This collaborative effort ensures the region continues to thrive as a premier travel destination for visitors locally and globally.

Tourism is a vital part of Skagit Valley’s economy, contributing significantly to local businesses and communities. Visitors drawn to the region’s stunning landscapes, seasonal festivals, and outdoor recreation generate millions of dollars annually through spending on lodging, dining, shopping, and activities. This infusion of revenue supports jobs across a variety of industries, from hospitality to agriculture, and helps sustain small businesses that are the backbone of the valley. Additionally, tourism-related taxes fund essential services and infrastructure improvements, ensuring the valley remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.
